I’m on Safari (iPhone + Mac) most days. Since last update you see a tiny magic-wand icon. I press it, touch the ad, and boom – element disappears.

• Why I like it

  • One tap, gone. No need extra extension.

  • Remembers per site. Next visit still clean.

  • Less breakage. Page works normal, just quieter.

Not perfect (some animated ads come back) but for me maybe 8-of-10 banners never show again. Good enough.

2. Inbox Zero

My Gmail inbox was a mess. Too many emails. I do this to make sure it’s clean everyday:

1. 5 folders only – Action, Waiting, Read later, Reference, Archive. Everything else = delete.

2. Timer 15 min at 16:00 – I clear my inbox. Everyday.

3. Unsubscribe fast – If I delete same email twice in one week, I hit “unsubscribe”.

Result: phone shows “0” most time, so I stop doom-scrolling email at night.

Pro tip - use unroll.me to get rid from all the newsletter or ads you don’t wanna see in your inbox / search for “unsubscribe“ in the gmail and delete all the emails that appears there.

3. Flying for a vacation or work trip?

If you're using Airalo to buy a new eSIM every time, there's actually a cheaper alternative. I found this site - it’s like a global marketplace for eSIMs. It’s super easy to use, reliable, and can save you a ton of money.

Not sure if I’m the only one, but every few months I’m forced to confront the fact that fax machines still exist. Banks, certain doctors’ offices - sometimes even government agencies - still insist on a fax. I looked into why, and it’s mostly about legacy systems, outdated regulations, and the (strange but real) perception that faxes are somehow more secure than regular email.

A lot of organizations have backend processes built around paper trails and signatures, so reworking those systems would be expensive and time-consuming. Then there’s regulation - government rules (especially in finance, insurance, and health) often haven’t caught up to modern encryption, so faxed documents fulfill the “must be sent on a dedicated line” checkbox. Some folks genuinely believe that the inefficient phone-line-to-printer journey is somehow more secure than digital transfer, despite plenty of hackers and bored IT auditors arguing otherwise.

Another problem: health and legal systems sometimes require a “wet” signature, or a copy sent from a device with a physical address (enter the fax). And unlike regular email, which can end up in a spam folder, faxes often spit out a confirmation sheet - a little ritual that makes everyone feel like The Paper Was Sent and Received (just like the two blue check marks next to a sent message in WhatsApp).

Honestly, it’s a museum of bureaucracy and outdated tech, but at least these days you can send a fax from your phone or laptop. So if you ever do get the annoying request, consider apps like HelloFax or iFax, which let you upload a document and “fax” it over the internet instead of searching for that one working fax machine in a 10-mile radius.

2. Get a Better Airplane Seat Every Time

If you haven’t used SeatGuru before booking flights, add it to your toolbox. Plug in your airline and flight number, and you get a full seat map with real pros/cons for every row - think legroom, power outlets, recline limits, even if you’re next to the galley.

Bonus: I always combine SeatGuru with Google Flights (for price alerts) and TripIt (for keeping all my trip details in one place). Small effort, big upgrade.

3. Single-Tab Mode: How I Finally Stopped Drowning in Open Windows

If you’re like me, your browser probably has 34 tabs open by lunchtime, and you still can’t find this morning’s notes or that doc your colleague sent. Lately, I’ve been testing “single-tab mode” - the (almost radical) act of only letting myself keep one browser tab open at a time.

The trick is easier than it sounds:

• Use extensions like OneTab (collapses all tabs into a single list), or Workona (organizes tab groups by project, super useful if you context-switch a lot).

• Pin your daily priorities (task manager, calendar, top doc) and close everything else - bonus points if you trigger a five-minute review session a couple times a day to process your OneTab/workspace list.

Has it changed my life? Not exactly - but I get distracted less, lose fewer links, and have stopped that “where did my day go?” feeling more often than not. Try it for a few hours and see how your focus feels.

Bonus: If you need to leave tabs open for that one big research project, set a naming scheme or pin them - all the rest, into the void.

1. Smart Home Devices

   1. Smart plug for lights – For any stand lamp or device that plugs directly into an outlet, try this smart plug. Works easily with both iPhone and Android.

   2. Smart switch – This one’s straightforward: you attach it with adhesive to your existing light switch to make it “smart” without any rewiring.

   3. Smart AC – Sensibo (an Israeli company) lets you control your AC remotely using your phone, by copying the signal from your existing remote.

   4. Think of these gadgets as the endpoints, but you’ll still need some kind of “brain” to manage everything—like a hub. If you’re on iPhone, I recommend the Apple HomePod Mini; for Android, go with Alexa or Google Nest. Just set one up and connect all your smart devices to it.

   

   I also use the smart plug for my coffee machine - it's set to turn on automatically in the morning so it’s ready when I wake up, and to switch off around 5pm after my last cup. Simple, but it makes the routine a bit smoother.

2. AI Browsers – Comet, and an Actually Useful Use Case

   Been trying out Comet browser lately. It’s a browser with some built-in AI features that are actually…useful. For example, I was ordering a fragrance online and didn’t feel like hunting for promo codes. I asked Comet to look for me, and it went through a pile of coupon sites, automatically tested what worked, and just applied a real discount in the cart. Saved me typing in six expired codes. Pretty efficient.

   There’s also a shortcut that lets you click any address or business online and open it straight in Google Maps - one click, which just saves time versus copying and pasting between tabs. Simple, but cuts out an annoying step.

   Not a life-changer, but it does make a few online errands less tedious. Feels like the kind of browser early adopters might want to check out, especially if you’re into streamlining the little stuff.

3. Flights – “Track, Book, Rebook” For Cheaper Travel

   This is something I’ve been using for flights the last year, and it’s actually paid off a couple of times.

   • Set up price alerts: I use Google Flights – you just add any route and date range, even if you’re only roughly set on dates, and it’ll ping you if prices drop.

   • Book something flexible: If you see a good price, go ahead and book, but use airlines or booking sites with free changes or 24-hour cancellation (most have this now, especially if you book direct).

   • Keep watching: Don’t turn off your price alerts after you’ve booked! If the same flight drops, a bunch of airlines will let you cancel and rebook at the lower price or get airline credit. For US flights at least, I’ve gotten partial refunds doing this – just takes a quick check on the airline’s website or app.

   If you want to go deeper, there’s a tool called Hopper that predicts price drops and lets you freeze a price for a while. Or stick with Google Flights for a quick, no-app-needed workflow.

   Bonus: If your travel dates are super flexible, try Google Flights Explore – plug in your starting city and browse to see which days/months are cheapest for your destination. Helps spot those random days where prices are 30% lower for no reason.

   Nothing groundbreaking, but if you’re the sort of person who likes “set and forget” hacks for travel, this one has saved me real money.

   The extension called Teleprompt AI.

   How to use it:
   Teleprompt AI plugs right into your browser and suggests better ways to ask whatever you’re trying to get from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini (or whoever your favorite robot happens to be). I’ve used it for everything from rewording complex questions to quickly getting the right format for code explanations or travel plans. Worth it just to see some “prompt templates” you wouldn’t have thought of.

   I like to keep it pinned so when I get stuck (or just want faster answers), two clicks and I can try their version of my query. Sometimes the difference between “summarize this” and “give me a short, bulleted action list” is the difference between “huh?” and “oh, that makes sense.”

1. Setting up reminders hack
   Too lazy for that? Ask ChatGPT to generate an .ics file with your tasks and reminder dates. You can then import it straight into your calendar, and all your events will show up automatically.

   This trick also works great for planning meetings during work trips - just drop in the email with when and where you want to meet, and it can generate the calendar invite for you. Just make sure to set the right time zone and add their email. It will generate one file with all the details for multiple meetings.

2. Stop using Uber or Lyft - I found a cheaper way to ride - (US only, Europe option below)

   It’s called Empower, and just like Uber or Lyft, it gets you from point A to point B. The big difference? Empower lets drivers keep 100% of their earnings and run their own business—no middleman taking a cut or controlling the ride. It’s usually 20% cheaper, and sometimes even up to 50%, depending on rush hour or weather.

   Not totally sure where they operate across the U.S., but definitely worth checking out. The UI/UX & registration process isn’t amazing, but honestly, once you’re in the car, it doesn’t really matter. If you wish to use the referral code, feel free to do so (we both benefit from it). 🚗 Morning Arrival
•As soon as I arrive within 200 meters of the office, my iPhone automatically calls a contact saved as “Gate”.
•This number opens the entrance gate to the office parking lot - hands free and hassle free.

🕔 End of Day Routine
•When I open the app used for logging my entrance and exit, Shortcuts kicks in.
•It waits 30 seconds (enough time for me to log the exit time and reach my car), and then:
•Calls the Gate number again to open the parking lot.
•Launches Waze, automatically setting the route to my home - so I can hit the road with zero taps.

Cool marketing experiment

About three weeks ago, I had an idea I wanted to test, so I decided to run a small marketing experiment. I invested $150 and, instead of running paid ads or complicated campaigns, I tried something different: I sent handwritten letters & envelopes to 40 people - potential customers - to see if they’d be interested in the service I was thinking of offering.

Each letter included a quick explanation of the service, the price, and a dedicated email address they could use to get in touch if they wanted to hear more. (To be fair, I wasn’t planning to actually sell anything yet - I just wanted to see if the method worked.)

The results were pretty awesome:

• I targeted people estimated to be between 35–55 years old (based on Facebook info)

• All lived on the East Coast (New York, Pennsylvania, Miami, and Connecticut),

• All owned and lived in private houses

• The service I offered? Garage door repairs and annual maintenance for a fixed price

Here’s what happened:

• 12 people emailed back saying they wanted more details

• 2 people asked not to be contacted again

• 1 person even looked me up on LinkedIn 😅

I used a third-party service to send the letters and combined Google Maps (Street View) with local permit data to identify the right homes and gather contact details. (Yeah… there’s a ton of public info online). I still have some credit left with this company for future “letter experiments” - I'll update when I do a larger experiment.

Each letter was personalized, and I set up a dedicated email address so I wouldn’t miss any replies.

(This is just an example of a letter I received from a company I researched before working with them).

The app still has some room for improvement, but it’s definitely more accurate. Tomorrow.io stands out by combining proprietary satellite data and advanced AI to deliver hyper-accurate, actionable weather insights and personalized recommendations. For the tech geeks here, they have APIs that you can play with.

1. Weather updates

As said, I use Tomorrow’s app to check if I need to grab an umbrella before heading out. So far, it’s been way more reliable than the built-in apps.

2. Amazon price tracker

This one’s simple but super useful. Every time there's an Amazon Prime Day or any holiday sale, I check this site to see if the price is actually a deal or just marketing fluff.

Pro tip - Add items to a watchlist to get notified when prices drop. It’s saved me more than a few bucks.

3. Waking up with 100% battery life

Last week I woke up and my phone was at 5% - turns out I didn’t plug in the charger properly.
Here’s a trick to avoid that happening again: now, every time I plug in my phone, it says out loud “Charging” (even when it’s on silent).
Here’s how to set it up:

1. Open the Shortcuts app

2. Tap Automation (bottom menu)

3. Tap + → search for “Charger”

4. Choose “Is Connected” → enable “Run Immediately”

5. Tap Next → choose “Speak Text”

6. Type whatever you want it to say (I wrote “Charging”)

7. Tap Done

Sleep tracking – simpler than you might think
Smartwatches are now super common, often used for entertainment or business purposes. But in fact, most of them have sensors that directly track parameters which, when combined, can accurately estimate more complex aspects, like sleep.
Sleep tracking can be greatly beneficial to your life by helping you assure sufficient rest and an ideal distribution of sleep stages (which is a topic of its own).

Recently, I bought a “Coros” smartwatch designed for runners, since it doesn’t necessarily outperform competitors like Garmin or Apple Watch the exact model doesn’t really matter. As a mechanical engineer, I was amazed by how precisely the watch tracks sleep duration and sleeping stages, down to the minute or even seconds. Apparently, while sleeping our body has distinct physiological patterns that today’s sensors can detect quite easily. I won’t get into the technical details, mainly because I don’t fully understand them, so consider this an empirical observation. You might wonder: what if you just lie still in bed with a low heart rate, won’t the watch think you’re asleep? Surprisingly, the answer is no.

Even though, technologically, you can probably start tracking your sleep today, you still need to overcome two small obstacles: wearing the watch while sleeping and making sure it’s charged.

Gilad here again - I've been using my Oura Ring to track my sleep and run little A/B tests to see how different factors affect my rest and recovery. For example: I’ll sleep three nights with the AC on and three nights with it off, keeping everything else the same (bedtime, wake time, etc.) to compare sleep scores. I’ve also tested how different things - like drinking beer or wine, eating fish or meat for dinner - impact my sleep. You get the idea. After gaining a better understanding of how my body reacts to those kinds of things, I've adjusted my habits accordingly (though I do drink beer / wine from time to time).

You don't need anything fancy for this. You can use an Apple Watch, Garmin, or any smart device that tracks sleep. Just sleep with it instead of charging it (and make sure the notification are turned off). Over the past year, I’ve started paying much more attention to this stuff, and honestly, I’ve noticed a real difference in how I feel day to day just by learning to “listen” to my body.
